UX Design or UI Design ... Or both?
This is a topic that can often be confusing when Digital
Consultants are talking to clients ... well, it was certainly for me when I
first heard the terms UX and UI Design.
You will often see on LinkedIn, as well as on many other
sites and article designers that talk about the excellent user experience and
the beautiful user interface, as well as the recruiters who post things like,
"Looking for the awesome Oxer for the brilliant Digital Agency "...
but what hex 'do these terms really mean?
I have tried to put the following in as simple terms as
possible, keep in mind that many of these opinions are from my own perspective.
UX and UI revealed
UX stands for User Experience Design and UI stands for User
Interface Design. Both are crucial for many web and digital products, however,
each of these plays a very different role in the web or digital creation
process.
A good and commonly used way to differentiate the parts of a
digital product is the following: If you think of the final product as a real
person ... the design of UX represents the organs that maintain the flow and
correct functioning of the body, measuring and optimizing. And make sure it
works without problems. The design of the user interface would be the images of
the body, as well as the skin, the hair, the whole aesthetic. Finally the code
would be the bones, keeping everything together.
In simple terms, UX Design is about making sure everything
is easy and intuitive to use, UI Design is about making the product atrocious,
and the code itself is how everything works.
What is UX Design?
The design of the user experience (UX, UXD, UED or XD) is
the process of improving user satisfaction by improving the ease of use,
accessibility and pleasure provided by the interaction between the user and the
product.
The above is taken from Wikipedia.
So, instead of what you see in the product, the user's
experience is the interactions you make when using the product. Let's put this
in terms of life -
Scenario 1: if you were going to go to an e-commerce website
trying to find a new pair of coaches and it was very difficult to search for
the brand you were looking for, the navigation menu was unclear and confusing,
'Add to Cart' did not It was very visible, the creation of an account took more
than 5 steps and there was no option to withdraw as a guest ... you get the
image, everything on the website is hard work. This would be defined as a poor
UX design.
Scenario 2: If I go to an e-commerce website to find the
same product, the menu navigation is clear, with clearly defined products and
brands, I can use a search tool that presents suggestions when I start writing
a product or brand, each The product page has all the details of the product
you need and a clear Call to action for 'Add to cart'. Creating an account
takes 2 simple steps and the entire purchase process is transparent and well
oriented. This is a solid case of great UX design.
UX is not simply the ease of use of the menu but less
obvious things, for example, making sure that the error messages are clear and
providing a solution to the user, such as a 404 error page that provides a
message explaining that the page does not exists and that gives a button to
return to the previous work page.
From the perspective of a web development agency,
here is a vision of the tasks that we will carry out during the design of the
user experience, once we start a digital project, for example. New website and
have carried out the stages of research and analysis:
1. User flows and prototypes
2. Wired (both for mobile devices and desktop).
3. Tests and iterations.
What is the user interface design?
The design of the user interface (UI) or the engineering of
the user interface is the design of user interfaces for machines and software,
such as computers, appliances, mobile devices and other electronic devices, in
order to maximize the user experience. User. The goal of the user interface
design is to make user interaction as simple and efficient as possible, in
terms of achieving the user's objectives (user-centered design).
The above is taken from Wikipedia.
The design of the user interface is generally understood as
the graphic design of a product. However, the definitions of the experts can
also refer to the design of UI that involves structural techniques (as in UX
design) ... which means that everything can be very confusing.
An IU designer will study all the elements approved during
the UX Stage and adapt it to a visually pleasing product. So, if we are talking
about a website, they will design an attractive, attractive and responsive view
for the main pages of the website for both mobile devices and desktop
computers.
Here is an idea of some key tasks of the user interface:
1. Target market, customer analysis and design research.
2. Branding and Graphic Development.
3. Design for several devices (responsive)
4. Implementation with Development Team.
Summary
Is one more important than the other? I will leave that in
your hands so that you can make your own decision.
If you are carrying out a digital project, I would strongly
advise you to think about both UX and UI Design. This will ensure that the
product will run smoothly and will look beautiful to the end user. At the end
of the day, what will make your digital project a success is what's important!
